Here is one that i felt was over looked.
Peter Pan that was released in 2003. A sweet adaptation of a classic story, but listen to a few songs that I will attach. Every time I hear them I feel so relaxed or inspired.
Is there a movie that has a score that you just love?
This week I will post further scores that I feel truly shine.
what about this!!!
I thought this was a really good movie!! And I love how the soundtrack, or score, made it that much more remarkable, especially to children! :)
ReplyDeleteI like when the music can move you through the scenes and make things feel more magical.
I think another movie score that was overlooked was in Finding Neverland. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wqqDQ6IpDs.
Also, upon reading this I looked further into movie scores. I fount the American Film Institute's list of top 25 film scores to be most interesting. And I found it even more interesting that none of these scores took place in recent years. Check it out: http://www.afi.com/Docs/100Years/scores25.pdf
Ah, movie scores .... where to begin?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite composer of all time is Carter Burwell ... he's scored all the Coen Bros. films .... Miller's Crossing is among the best. I've emailed him off and on, and he tells me the MC theme is from an old Irish air called "Limerick's Lamentation."
But of course scores always compete with 'songs featured in' ... IMHO one of the best of all time of these is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Eddie Vedder's collaboration for "Dead Man Walking" listen here.
Mary: I was going to talk about this list later this week, but keep in mind, it is always being updated. Films such as Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean can both be found on the list now. Also, look not only at the films and the score, but look at how iconic all the films on that list are. Also, another film that has made the list, Jurassic Park and Titanic. It is forever changing and slowly more films from "now" are being added.
ReplyDeletePotter: Dead Man Walking is not only a great film, but i agree that that song is just beautiful! You will have fun when I cover Lord of the Rings. Any favorites from it that you would like me to pay more attention to?
I'm a big fan of Howard Shore, and his LOTR work -- including having to re-edit his scores for the "extended" versions -- should have won him a medal of some sort!
ReplyDeleteBut my favorite works of his are his soundtracks for David Cronenberg's films.
And don't forget Leonard Rosenman's score for Bakshi's animated LOTR -- it has some great moments too!
