Food and Movies?

In Forest Gump, we see how Forest makes a friend named Bubba who comes from a family of sharpers. They know everything about shrimp! After the war, Forest creates a his own shrimping business named Bubba Gump Shrimp.

Did you know there are restaurants all across the world!?

Can you guess what food they specialize in?

If you are a fan of shrimp and like corny themed restaurants, check it out!

  1. I hate to be negative or come off as a snob, but I tried it when they first opened in Charleston SC and was very disappointed. The seafood was not local or fresh which is a cardinal sin if you live close to the ocean, and the visual clutter was enough to induce seizures. Experience has taught me to dine locally and off the beaten path.

  3. Not sure whether I would go to a Bubba Gump's place, since in my opinion Forrest Gump is a detestable film!

However, there are a few films which, for me, get the hunger juices flowing.

"Mmm, that is a tasty burger!" -- an immortal phrase. I've always wanted to try a Big Kahuna burger. There never really was one outside of Quentin Tarantino's imagination, but several places serve a burger of this name, with this one declaring it to be the inspiration for the one in Pulp Fiction!

  4. Well if it inspired anything for Tarantino, I'll pass. To make this short and quick, I hate him as a person and i hate his movies. never saw one i liked.

But if you ever saw Last Holiday with Queen Latifah, I'm up for trying food by Chef Didier.

  5. I think this is a really interesting post. As far as I know, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company was either the first or one of the first film inspired theme restaurants. There are several theme restaurants though and I always find it interesting how they bring them alive. Planet Hollywood for example, Johnny Rockets, Hard Rock Cafe, Jekyll & Hyde Club, Heart Attack Grill, etc.

There is also a bar down the street from me which used to be known by a different name, but is now called the Drunken Clam. I don't know much about it, but I wonder if it was inspired by the TV show Family Guy.

  6. Actually, there have been movie inspired restaurants for a long time. Keep in mind that many places in Disney are inspired from movies that Disney released. One of the oldest ones being Cinderella's Castle. Seems like just a nice decoration building, but there is a restaurant built inside that holds one of the longest waiting list of all disney restaurants. There are also Hitchcock themed restaurant that i have heard of that are in California that have been open for almost 35 years. Going back even more, a friend told me of a diner that was named "Nosferatu" after the movie. It opened in the 30s but had to close about five years ago due to the cost it would take to renovate the place. it wouldn't be worth it. So Bubba Gump was not one of the first, but it has become one of the most popular today.
